KPD: Body of homeless man found in creek in North Knoxville

(WBIR - North Knoxville) Knoxville police said a homeless man was found dead Thursday morning in a creek on Atlantic Avenue.

Darrell Debusk with KPD said the man's friend found him this morning and went into a business to call 911. The friend told investigators they had been drinking together Wednesday night.

It appears the man fell into the creek, but did not fall over the bridge, according to Debusk. He said no foul play is expected and there are homeless camps along the creek.

$100,000 pledge gives hope to groups fighting to save historic house

The Knox County District Attorney General's Office said Thursday it won't file charges against an owner of a liquor store who fired a warning shot into the air after an armed man apparently tried to rob his business.

Initially Knoxville police said the business owner, Modupe Osaro, fired his gun at two shoplifters as they ran from his North Knoxville store.

Lightning sparks two house fires in north Knoxville

Lightning is being blamed for two house fires in north Knoxville early Tuesday afternoon.

The Knoxville Fire Department responded to the first at 614 Mitchell Drive. Two men were inside the house around 11 am when they heard a loud crack that seemed to knock the power off. They soon smelled smoke, and called 911. Firefighters found smoke and a small fire in the attic above a laundry room, which was quickly extinguished.

Two people were shot, including an innocent bystander, during robbery that involved drugs at a north Knoxville apartment complex late Monday night, according to a Knoxville Police Department release.

Neighbors run through flames to alert family of fire

Firefighters are investigating what started a fire at a Fountain City house early Monday morning.

Just after 5 a.m., firefighters were called out to a home on Garden Drive. Two adults living in the basement ran through the flames to alert the family living in the upstairs unit. Everyone managed to get out of the house safely, but firefighters said a pet was missing.

Investigators believe the fire started in the basement of the home, but no word on how it started.

Crews prepping Fountain City Lake for more maintenance

Crews are once again drawing down water levels at the Fountain City Lake in north Knoxville.

Last year, the city drained the lake to make repairs and keep it from leaking. They filled it up again to make sure the repairs worked.

Now, officials are preparing to survey the lake.

Last week, wildlife officials relocated 200 fish from the lake. Once they remove them all, crews can really start working.

A woman told police that she pulled a gun on an intruder after he pushed his way into her north Knoxville apartment and tried to cut her hair.

Flapjack's Pancake Cabin celebrated its grand opening Wednesday in Powell. This is the chain's first location outside of Sevier County.
