Church plans fundraiser to save bell tower
News

Work is underway to save a 128-year-old bell tower at a Knoxville church.

Construction crews put new shingles on the tower at Shannondale Presbyterian Church on Monday. When the weather clears, the church plans to use a crane to put the tower back in place.

The bell tower was built in 1886. Decades later, the tower was full of rotted wood that needed to be replaced.

The congregation hosted several events to raise money for the repairs.

The next fundraiser is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 24 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The "Harvest Blessings Supper" includes dinner and a silent auction.

Tickets cost $10. The meal includes beans and cornbread, slaw, dessert and a drink.

The church is located at 4600 Tazewell Pike, Knoxville, TN 37918.
