Two people were shot, including an innocent bystander, during robbery that involved drugs at a north Knoxville apartment complex late Monday night, according to a Knoxville Police Department release.
Police said one of the victims, Calletano Rodriguez Jr., was trying to sell marijuana to the suspect outside an apartment complex at 2309 Highland Drive. During the sale, the suspect pulled out a handgun and started shooting, before taking off in a vehicle. Officials said the bullets struck Rodriguez through his right torso and hit an innocent bystander, Tylor Inman, in his right hand and left knee.
When officers arrived at the apartments shortly after 10:30 p.m., they found Inman inside the commons area of the apartment building.
They later found Rodriguez on Broadway Avenue at the I-640 entrance ramp, as he was trying to drive himself to the hospital. According to the release, officials found a small amount of cocaine on Rodriguez as they drove him to the hospital.
Inside Rodriguez's apartment, police also found more than 440 grams of marijuana, 25.1 grams of heroin, 27.8 grams of crystal meth, an unmarked pill bottle of Xanax, a 12-gauge shotgun, an AK machine pistol, along with several magazines for the weapon.
Authorities also found out that Rodriguez was a wanted for previous crimes in Texas.
Officials have issued warrants for drug possession, and he will be charged once he's discharged from the hospital. Additional charges are also expected as the investigation continues.
