Water main bursts in north Knox Co.

(WBIR) Utility crews are working to fix a water main break that burst in north Knox County Wednesday morning.

The water main broke on Collier Road near West Emory Road, spewing mud and water into the road and a nearby yard.

Workers said initially a lot of homes were affected, but now only a handful are without water.

Knoxville man killed in North Knox motorcycle crash

A Knoxville man was killed in a motorcycle crash Tuesday morning in North Knox County.

According to the Knox County Sheriff's Office, Wally Glenn Kitts, 47, was riding a Harley Davidson on Gray Road when the accident happened around 11:30 am.

Investigators said it appears Kitts miscalculated a curve, locked up his brakes, and slid into a guard rail.

Kitts was thrown from the motorcycle and was killed. He was wearing a helmet, but not an approved one. He died on the scene.

Vic and Bill's Deli closing its doors after decades in Knoxville

A North Knoxville restaurant with decades of history is closing its doors for good.

Monday, Vic and Bill's Deli announced it is going out of business.

The store started as Sam and Andy's Deli back in the late '60s. It went through several name changes and reboots over the years as it moved from near UT's campus to its current location on Broadway in North Knoxville.

The current manager says closing the family business is difficult.

Power restored to thousands after substation fire Saturday

(WBIR) Thousands of people were without power Saturday night after a fire at a KUB substation in northwest Knoxville.

According to the Knoxville Utilities Board, there was an electrical fire at a substation near the Cumberland Heights subdivision off of Western Ave at around 8:30 p.m. Knoxville firefighters were able to put it out using fire extinguishers.

At its peek, there were more than 6,000 customers without power, but power was restored by 10:45 p.m.

Tire tracks now mark Powell soccer field

It looks like someone went on a joyride through the middle of a Powell soccer field.

The field is located behind Powell Middle School, and is also used by the high school teams.

School officials say a middle school teacher who is also an assistant soccer coach spotted the tire tracks marring the green grass of the field Monday morning.

KPD: Hand grenade found outside Walmart on Clinton Hwy.

(WBIR) Knoxville police say a hand grenade found outside the Walmart on Clinton Highway Monday morning was an "outdated" device that could have come from the Wold War II era.

A mowing crew discovered the grenade in the grass near the tire and lube center and called police at about 9 a.m.

Darrell DeBusk, with the Knoxville Police Department, said the grenade initially appeared to be live. It contained an unknown substance, but experts weren't able to determine if it was inert.
