Investigators confirm brake problem caused fatal bus crash


Investigators have confirmed a brake problem caused a fatal crash between a church bus and two other vehicles last week.

On Thursday, a church bus carrying teenagers from Berea Christian Church in Brazil, Indiana, ran through a red light on Oglewood Avenue and into traffic on Broadway.

Investigators are calling a North Knoxville home a total loss after a fire Monday.

Rural Metro responded to the call on Cline Road just before 7 o'clock. They say a truck hit the house Sunday, pushing over a wall which helped the fire spread.

Firefighters are searching for the cause of the blaze. They say no one was hurt.


Stabbing victim found walking down the street


(WBIR) Witnesses told Knoxville police they found a stabbing victim walking down the street in northwest Knoxville late Monday night.

As officers settled the disturbance on the 1300 block of W. Oldham, they saw witnesses trying to take Carlos Shields, 35, to the hospital at about 10:30 p.m. Officers said Shields was stabbed at least once.

Witnesses told police they saw Shields walking down the road and tried to take him to the hospital until they were stopped by officers.
