Police search for 2 armed robbery suspects

Update 9:57 am:

(WBIR) Two armed robbers are on the run after police say they stole money from a north Knoxville gas station early Friday morning.

Knoxville police said two men armed with semi-automatic handguns walked into the Pilot on 2518 N. Broadway at stole a small amount of cash from the register.

One of the men fired his weapon into a cigarette display, but no one was injured, according to Knoxville Police Department release.

Worker severely burned in steel plant accident dies

(WBIR) A worker severely burned in an accident at a north Knoxville steel plant in May passed away.

A spokesperson for Gerdeau Long Steel North America confirmed the employee died Monday night. Less than a month ago, an accident at the company's plant on Tennessee Avenue sent six people to the hospital.

The employee who died was the only one who suffered severe injuries. Doctors released the other five workers the night of the accident.

Car explosion sparks fire at recycling center

A car explosion at a recycling center sparked a fire Wednesday afternoon in North Knox County.

It happened around 4 p.m. at a lot next to Right Way Recycling's building in Halls.

A worker told firefighters a junk car the company had just purchased for scrap exploded for no apparent reason. No one was working on the car at the time. The flames caught a nearby pile of recycled car and appliance parts on fire.

Rural/Metro had five engines and 20 firefighters working the fire.

Driver dies in North Broadway crash

A woman died Monday evening after crashing on one of North Knoxville's busiest roads.

It happened near the intersection of North Broadway and Jacksboro Pike before 6 p.m.

Knoxville Police say Virginia Dowling, 66, of Knoxville, was driving south on North Broadway when her Subaru Forester crossed the median and crashed head-on into a Dodge Charger.

Dowling died in the crash, and the driver of the Charger was taken to UT Medical Center, where they are expected to survive.

Man accused of CVS armed robbery on the run

(WBIR) Knoxville police responded to an armed robbery in a North Knoxville pharmacy Thursday at noon.

An employee told police that a man came into the CVS on 5401 Clinton Highway, demanding money from the register. The man then threatened the cashier, indicating that he had a weapon in his pocket, according to a Knoxville Police Department release. Officials said no one was hurt. No word if any money was stolen.
