New youth disc golf course opens at Inskip Park


There's a new place for kids to try out a new sport in Knoxville.

On Monday, the City of Knoxville opened a new youth disc golf course at Inskip Park, which is located at 4204 Bruhin Road.

The course was designed with kids between the ages of 8 and 12 in mind, but it is open to people of all ages and skill levels.

The Knoxville Disc Golf Association asked the Parks and Recreation Department to provide a course geared towards younger players.

'Click It or Ticket' campaign kicks off today

Monday kicked off the start of the national campaign urging drivers and passengers to buckle up.

Officials said they hope "Click It or Ticket" campaign reminds people that wearing a seat belt could mean the difference between life or death.

Many fatal accidents could have been avoided if people were wearing their seat belts. Last year officials said more than 360 fatal crash victims in Tennessee weren't wearing seat belts. So far this year, 128 fatal crash victims were unrestrained.

The Knox County Commission this week will begin picking through and potentially tweaking Mayor Tim Burchett's proposed budget.

The emphasis, officials say, will be on school spending .

Knoxville family displaced after house fire


(WBIR) Fire crews Sunday put out a house fire in North Knoxville that started in a bedroom.

KFD responded to a report of a house fire on the 4000 block of Oakland Drive.

All four family members safely made it out of the house before fire crews got there.

Once on the scene, firefighters extinguished the flames and identified the room of origin to be a bedroom. One family member said they believed a candle left burning may have been to blame for the fire.

Powell High students can now enjoy outdoor classroom


After months of hard work, students at Powell High School celebrated the grand re-opening of some unique classroom space.

They cut the ribbon at the entrance to their outdoor classroom on Friday.

The Environmental Club has been working since the fall to clean up what had become an overgrown mess.

Their teacher got a $3000 grant to buy plants, build a shed and buy stones for the walkways but the planning and the manual labor was the work of the students.

Truck hits girl after dog chases her into the street


(WBIR) Crews took an 11-year-old girl to the hospital Friday morning after she ran out into the road and was hit by a truck.

A truck hit the girl on the 2100 block of Keith Avenue just before 7:30 a.m.

She told police she ran out into the road because a dog jumped out and scared her. The girl went to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for some cuts on her head. Police said her injuries were non-life threatening.

IRS conducting 'official business' at Powell company


(WBIR) Agents with the IRS Criminal Investigation Division confirmed they were at HR Comp Employee Leasing on official business Thursday morning.

The business is located on Clinton Highway in Powell. The Tennessee Secretary of State's office listed the business as HR Comp to You.

The IRS said the FBI is assisting in its investigation.

Officials have not released any further information.
