Tenn. homeowners benefit from settlement

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A preliminary report shows Tennessee homeowners are benefiting from a settlement reached with the nation's top five mortgage servicers.

Tennessee and 48 other attorneys general and federal agencies reached the agreement with the servicers in April following a series of state and federal investigations into improper foreclosures and industry practices.

Knoxville officials prepare for busy weekends ahead

Hundreds of thousands of people will flood Knoxville this weekend for the annual Boomsday and Labor Day activities.

"They're estimating somewhere around 400,000 for the entire event," said Knoxville Police Chief David Rausch.

Construction on the Henley Bridge complicates things this holiday weekend, and as crowds fill the city for the weekends to follow.

Knoxville police will be out in force this weekend directing traffic and monitoring drivers.

Bird houses born from salvaged material

An East Tennessee artist combines his jewelry, painting, and construction skills to create one of a kind pieces made from recycled material.

A basement workshop in Karns is where Anthony Carter creates bird houses.

"It's a good way to recycle and that's really what I'm stressing," he said.

Everything is recycled and salvaged except for the screws and nails.

Juvenile stabbed in North Knoxville

A juvenile has been stabbed with multiple wounds in Western Heights.

The Knoxville Police Department says they responded to the call around 7:40 Tuesday evening.

Officers say the wounds are not considered life-threatening.

The victim was transported to the hospital by Rural Metro.

Officers have a suspect in custody and charges are pending.

No names are being released at this time.

Roadwork to close Andersonville Pk intersection Tues. night

Drivers who use Andersonville Pike at Emory Road will need to plan for detours between 8 p.m. Tuesday night and 6 a.m. Wednesday morning.  The Knox County Engineering Department announced the closure in a press release Tuesday morning.

According to the release, crews will be improving the intersection by installing four new cross culverts.

Drivers will be directed onto Old Andersonville Pike, Norris Freeway, and other roads.  The department says the longest detour will be 3 miles.
