Knoxville police search for convenience store robber

Knoxville police are searching for a man who robbed a convenience store in north Knoxville.

Officials said a man demanded money from the cashier at Kenjo Market on North Central Avenue on Wednesday afternoon.

The man was wearing a black ski mask, a thick dark blue jacket, dark jeans, and black shoes. The suspect was last seen running in that area, but officials believe he left in a car nearby before they arrived.

Couple escapes house fire in Powell

A couple managed to get out of their house just before fire spread through their home Friday morning.

The homeowner heard smoke alarms go off Friday morning, and discovered that his rental car was on fire. As he and his wife were escaping the home, the fire coming from the garage consumed the door leading into the house.

Both escaped the fire unharmed.

Powell bypass road set to open next week


(WBIR - North Knox County) After more than three years of construction, TDOT has announced the road that's been dubbed the Powell bypass will open.

Identity released in weekend discovery of body under I-40

The woman whose body was found Sunday afternoon under Interstate 40 near Mitchell Street has been identified as Stacy Phillips, 35, according to the Knoxville Police Department.

The autopsy on the Knoxville woman's body was finished Monday but the cause of death still is pending. It will be released by the county medical examiner's office.

Authorities told 10News on Sunday there appeared to be no obvious signs of foul play.
