Car crashes into house, hurts woman

A car hit a power pole, traveled down an embankment, before running into a house in north Knoxville Thursday morning.

Police said a woman was inside the home on Garden Drive when the accident happened. The crash's impacted knocked a bed across the floor and hit the woman.

Crews took her to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for minor injuries.

Officials said the car's driver was okay.

Teen expected to be ok after being hit by car

A 13-year-old boy was taken to the hospital after being hit by an SUV Tuesday afternoon.

According to Knoxville Police, Alexander Dingess ran out onto Pleasant Ridge Road near Merchants Drive just after 3:30 pm and was hit by a Ford Escape. The driver tried to avoid hitting him, but was unable to stop in time.

Dingess was taken to UT Medical Center with cuts and bruises, and should be treated and released.

The driver will not be charged in the accident.

KFD investigates cause of North Knoxville house fire

Crews worked Sunday night to try and determine what caused a fire in an empty unit of a North Knoxville home.

The Knoxville Fire Department said they found fire coming from the upstairs bedroom at a two-unit home on the 200 block of East Burwell Avenue around 6:20 P-M. Sunday.

KFD said the landlord went up to check on the vacant unit after smelling smoke. Crews contained the fire damage to the upstairs bedroom.

Arson investigators are working to determine the cause.

Former teacher assistant charged with abuse & assault

A former teaching assistant at Halls Middle School has been charged with child abuse and assault, stemming from her behavior in the classroom.

Rebecca Shoemaker, 53, worked in a special education classroom.

According to a lawsuit filed in November, the investigation began in September after a complaint. The Knox County Sheriff's Office and Department of Children's Service went to the school to look into the allegations. Shoemaker resigned less than a week later.

6 people injured in north Knox Co. school bus crash

Crews took four students to the hospital after a bus crashed in north Knox County on Monday morning.

Knox County deputies said a Halls High School student was traveling south on Scenic View Drive lost control of his car and crashed head-on into a school bus at 8:30 a.m. The bus 5 was headed to Ridgedale School, according to Knox County Schools.

Deputies said three children on the bus suffered minor injuries. Crews also took two adults aboard the bus and the Halls High School student to the hospital.

Operation Christmas Child collection week set to begin

(WBIR) An East Tennessee church is working to spread holiday cheer to children worldwide, in memory of a young Knoxville girl.

Salem Baptist Church packed hundreds of boxes Sunday evening for Operation Christmas Child, a long standing project through the group Samaritan's Purse.

Each one included donated items such as toys, school supplies, and hygiene items for kids less fortunate around the world.
