Codes enforcement hold sweep in the Belle Morris community

(WBIR-Knoxville) Knoxville City Inspectors hit the streets Tuesday morning for their annual codes enforcement sweep.

Inspectors walked the streets of the Belle Morris community in North Knoxville looking for potential codes violations.

This includes overgrown grass, excessive trash, and garbage cans left out on the street after pickup.

Fire damage forces 22 people to leave apartments

Investigators are trying to determine what started a fire that forced 22 people out of their apartments early this morning.

At about 2 a.m., firefighters responded to the Parkridge Harbor Apartments where they found a burning mattress in a laundry room in the second floor.

Crews at the scene said sprinklers kept the fire from spreading. The building suffered heavy water damage and all electrical units had to be disconnected.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) removed dozens of large fish from the Fountain City Lake on Monday and transferred them to Victor Ashe Park.

Suspect questioned in theft at Central football game

Knoxville police said they believe they know the man responsible for stealing items during a Central High School football game.

Officers said the suspect stole cash, wallets and cell phones from the visitors' locker room housing the Karns football team on Thursday night. Officials said the suspect destroyed the door to the locker room to steal items from seven people.

Investigators are questioning a man about the theft. He is in custody on unrelated charges.
