Council approves Fountain City Lake repair

The Fountain City Lake should be looking a lot better by fall.

Knoxville's City Council voted at their meeting Tuesday night to approve a $48,000 contract for the initial work to clean up the popular Fountain City landmark.

A leak in the man-made lake has created a lot of problems with the water levels and filtration. The water is covered in algae and looks green and murky.

Work will begin soon on fixing that leak. The lake will be drained, the fish relocated, and the leak repaired. After that, officials hope the lake will be refilled with spring-fed water by the end of October.

The city has committed $250,000 to the repairs and upkeep of the lake, along with the Lions Club.

Ahead of the meeting, officials posted a sign at the lake letting the public know about the process and how long it was going to take.
