Fish in Fountain City Lake being relocated

(WBIR-Fountain City) Tuesday was day two into the Fountain City Lake cleanup and slowly but surely, residents are seeing progress.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) removed dozens of large fish from the Fountain City Lake on Monday and transferred them to Victor Ashe Park.

The lake has had no major cleaning or maintenance work since the 1980's, which members of the Fountain City Lion's Club said was far overdue.

The city of Knoxville has contributed $250,000 to the project.

The Lion's Club is responsible for the lake and said the cleanup could take several months.

"The cleanup process will include cleaning up the bottom of the lake, however they decide to do that. From there, we will rebuild the weir down here. There is some problems on the other side with leakage, we will fix that up," said Ben Easterday, Fountain City Lion's Club.

They hope to have the project completed by next summer.

Lion's Club representatives said while cleaning Monday, they pulled out a carp that weighed more than 40 pounds.
