Investigators are trying to determine what started a fire that forced 22 people out of their apartments early this morning.

At about 2 a.m., firefighters responded to the Parkridge Harbor Apartments where they found a burning mattress in a laundry room in the second floor.

Crews at the scene said sprinklers kept the fire from spreading. The building suffered heavy water damage and all electrical units had to be disconnected.

The residents were taken to a temporary place to stay until the damage is repaired. Officials said they're investigating what caused the fire.
