(WBIR - Knox County) An East Tennessee church continued a decades-old tradition Monday, giving dozens of families the feeling of Christmas morning a few days early.

The Sharon Baptist Church in North Knox County handed out Christmas food baskets to 49 families that will last through Thursday. The church also gifted 70 presents to children in the area. The people behind the idea said they just wanted to lend a helping hand to those who need it.

"Folks come in here from a lot of different situations and the common factor is that they all have a need at this time of year," said Mark McCoig, the Pastor at Sharon Baptist Church. "It's just a blessing to be a part of that as we help to make their Christmas a little better."

McCoig said Sharon Baptist Church has been handing out Christmas baskets for about the last three decades.
