Powell Bypass set to open Monday morning
News

ID=22483941After more than three years of construction, the Powell Bypass is expected to open Monday morning.

About 10,000 drivers are expected to use this bypass every day. The new road will take drivers ways from narrow congestion in the heart of the Powell community, from Gill Road directly to Clinton Highway. The Tennessee Department of Transportation said several traffic and safety studies show that the expansion was needed.

The goal of the new road is to eliminate traffic in two school zones on West Emory Road: Powell High and Middle schools.

On Tuesday, TDOT will close the Emory Road connector for a week, which is at the intersection of the new road. Crews will finish paving, putting up guardrails, and other repairs to connect it to the new bypass.

Officials advise drivers to take Gill Road or Brickyard Road to access Old Emory Road.
