Man robs North Knoxville Dollar General store

(WBIR) Authorities are searching for a man who robbed a North Knoxville Dollar General Sunday afternoon.

Knoxville Police said he robbed the store at about 4:30 p.m. and forcefully took cash from the register. He got into a small scuffle with the cashier in the process.

Car hits pedestrian in north Knoxville

Emergency crews took a pedestrian to the hospital Friday morning after she was hit by a car in North Knoxville.

Knoxville police said at about 6:10 a.m. a car traveling south on Broadway hit a pedestrian near Grainger Avenue.

Officials said the pedestrian, 28-year-old Jessica Wright of Knoxville, was in the middle of the road. Crews transported Wright to the University of Tennessee Medical Center where she's listed as critical.

Crash early New Year's Day kills 1, injures 2

A crash in northwest early New Year's Day killed a man and injured two women in northwest Knox County.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Christopher A. Gibson, 22, of Knoxville was traveling eastbound on Schaad Road when his car crossed into the westbound lane and hit a Toyota. The impact threw Gibson and his passenger 18-year-old Tamera S. Dunn from the vehicle. Gibson died.

Armed robber hits Knoxville business on the day after Christmas

(WBIR) An armed robber demanded money at a North Knoxville business on the day after Christmas, according to the Knoxville Police Department.

KPD said it happened around 6:30 p.m. on Friday at Superior Cleaners on Tazewell Pike.

The robber held a handgun in one hand and a plastic bag in another. He told the victim to put the money in the bag. The victim gave him the money then the suspect ran out a side door.

Christmas comes early for some East Tennessee families

(WBIR - Knox County) An East Tennessee church continued a decades-old tradition Monday, giving dozens of families the feeling of Christmas morning a few days early.

The Sharon Baptist Church in North Knox County handed out Christmas food baskets to 49 families that will last through Thursday. The church also gifted 70 presents to children in the area. The people behind the idea said they just wanted to lend a helping hand to those who need it.

Emerald Academy choses historic Moses School Building

(WBIR - North Knoxville) Knoxville's first-ever charter school is setting up roots at a historic building and the site of a former school.

The Emerald Academy announced Friday it will be located at the historic Moses School Building in Mechanicsville. The building, on the corner of Carrick Street and Hannah Avenue, is currently occupied by the Boys and Girls Club of the Tennessee Valley.
